National Policy Statement on Urban Development (NPS-UD) Plan Change
The government NPS-UD has over-turned the latest Auckland Unitary plan making Council adopt the following affecting our area:
a) Introducing a new Townhouse & Apartment zone allowing six-story plus, with apartment buildings.
b) Removal of Special Character Overlay totally & the One House Site zone.
c) Allowing Councils only the use of Qualifying Matters as a means of interpretation. Auckland Council is considering the following as Qualifying Matters:
i) Walkable Catchment from CBD boundary of 1200 metres
ii) Walkable catchment from Ponsonby Road of 400 metres
iii) Special Character areas
iv) Permanent infrastructure restraints
So far, FBRA has held public meetings, organised mail drops & door knocking to pass information to all residents on how to initially submit to Council planners on points (i – iii) above.
These are being considered and a decision will be reported back to Auckland Council on August 4th 2022. On the basis of these decisions, we will then have from August 20th to the end of September to formally submit to the Independent Panel.
