Franklin Road, an iconic Auckland Road reknown for its Christmas lights, is undergoing a major facelift. The Assocation lobbied for this to become a priority for AT and the project is due for completion in 2019.
The upgrade includes introducing cycle lanes, new footpaths, protection of tree roots, upgrading of services, road resurfacing, new lighting and modifying (with a reduction on) parking.
A Community Liaison Group has been formed to engage key stakeholders in the development and delivery of the Project. Details of the Terms of Reference for this group can be found on the AT website.
Four members of the group represent residents of Franklin Road and nearby streets – one nominated by the Freemans Bay Residents Association and three from residents. Community representatives on the CLG are expected to be the link between the Project Team and the community and facilitate engagement with the community on any issues regarding the project.
re Franklin Rd roundabout
Hello I live on the corner of Franklin Rd and Wellington St. We welcomed the construction of the roundabout when it was proposed and have patiently put up with many months of disruption and noise while it was being constructed.
However now it is open to traffic it has had a major effect on the enjoyment of our home. The problem is the sheer size of the sped bumps as cars enter and exit the roundabout and the loud bangs made as cars and trucks go over the bumps. The noise is incredible, especially from trucks that enter the roundabout at speed, then crash down on the other side of the bump. It’s like being bombed in a war. There is virtually no warning signage of the bumps till traffic is on them and certainly no signs to indicate reducing sped as there are in places like Newmarket where they have installed similar monsters.
I was wondering if anyone else had expressed concern over this terrible noise that is really affecting our quality of life. These major speed bumps were not indicated on any plan AT gave us for comment.
Your feedback would be appreciated, thank you, Sarah Beresford
